A Literature Review of the Temporomandibular Joint(TMJ) Disorder

Abstract
Objectives: The purpose of this investigation is to study the influence of the temporomandibular joint(TMJ) subluxation on TMJ disorder or whole body symptom.

Methods: I had researched various journals and books for TMJ disorder, occlusion, occlusal appliance, biomechanical chain.

Results and Conclusions:
1. TMJ disorder is caused by muscle hypertension or contracture, dental occlusal problem, subluxation of around constructure, dental parafunctional activity etc.
2. TMJ disorder is made diagnosis by general examination, simple X-ray, low leg analysis etc.
3. TMJ subluxation can be cared by exercise guide, lateral pterygoid muscle release, manuplation, occlusal treat, treatment and diagnosis based on over all analysis of symptoms and signs.
4. The cause of the TMJ disorder in the oriental medicine is an external trauma, wind-evil, cold-evil. wetness-evil and the deficiency of vitality-blood energy or liver-kidney essense.
5. The treatment of the TMJ disorder in the oriental medicine is manuplation, acupuncture and moxibustion, oral medication, external application, fixation method. If occlusal treatment is used additionally, we can hope more effect.
